The sea stacs of Stac lee and Stac An Armin lies approximately miles (approx 6 km) from the Isle of Hirta in the St Kilda Archipelago. They are some of the largest colonies of sea birds in the world, hosting tens of thousands of birds. The primary bird is the Northern Gannet. Boreray Island also is home to feral sheep which can be seen grazing its precipitous island and the stacs are precipitous, with few and difficult landing spots and were hunted by the long time residents of Hirta before the evacuation of 1930.
