Robert Hunt (1807-1887), British scientist. Hunt was born at Devonport, son of a naval officer. He trained briefly in london for a medical career, but returned to Cornwall due to ill health. He took the position of secretary of the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society in 1840, which allowed him to pursue studies in chemistry and physics. He was an enthusiastic photographer, and developed the actinograph for measuring the actinic (image forming) light in a scene. His 1841 work Ã\Manual of Photographyà was the first English book on the subject. Hunt was an excellent keeper of records and he collected and produced books on mineral statistics for the UK. He was elected fellow of the Royal Society in 1854."
