Potato harvesters begin at dawn during autumn harvest.
The Crane Brothers Farm is a large-scale, multi-generational farm specializing in potatoes and corn. The Maine Farmland Trust has assisted the Crane Brothers in purchasing additional lands at agricultural prices instead of market development prices, allowing them to continue growing their farm. The Maine Farmland Trust is helping multi-generation farms to continue to thrive as well as helping young farmers to get into the business of farming. This process of preserving valuable farmland from being developed is not only keeping the agricultural culture of Maine alive, it is also providing healthy, often organic, locally grown foods for Maine people.
