Cyprus, satellite image. North is at top. Vegetation is green, bare ground is brown and tan, built up areas are grey, and water is dark blue. Cyprus, the Mediterranean's third largest island, lies to the east of Greece and south of Turkey. It is 240 kilometres long and 100 kilometres wide. The main feature are the Troodos Mountains (green, lower left), the Kyrenia Mountains (along the northern coast), and the Mesaoria plain between the two. The largest city, Nicosia, is at centre on this plain. Image data obtained in July and August 2002 by the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus on NASA's Landsat 7 satellite.
