Peduncle of female flowers long, and for the most part two-flowered. Nut small, ovate, obtuse, striated. (AficAx.) A deciduous tree. Carolina to Georgia. Height 60 ft. to 70 ft.; in England 10 ft. to 15 ft. Introduced in 1824, "•" and occasionally met with in collections. Flowers green- ish ; April and May. Fruit black, as in the preceding kind. t 3.
