The image shows Powers playing a banjo that he crafted using materials like a strip of pine lumber, a German wagon tongue, a piece of tin from a hard tack box, and different sizes of telephone wire for strings. The photograph was taken in Chatel, Ardennes, France, and it was approved for release by the Censor on December 23, 1918.
