Beckley Television Transmitter Tower, Oxfordshire UK immediately after fire on
13th May 2010: There was a serious fire affecting the Oxford Beckley TV transmitter mast at around 2:30pm on Thursday May 13th. This fire (at the top of the mast - at 490 feet above ground) caused damage to the aerials and mast, rendering the transmitter inoperable. Maintenance work was being carried out to prepare the transmitter for digital switchover at the time, there are some reports that the new digital aerials recently installed on the mast were being tested at the time. Around 400,000 people in Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire have suffered total loss of reception.
