CONSTRUCTION OF NEW RAILWAY BRIDGE OVER RIVER ORNE - Rhodes, of the American Railway Battalion, from Hanover, Penn., USA, a technical engineer attached to the British Military Authorities and engine driver Sapper Eric Walker of Mansfield, Nottingham, a former LMS fireman who drove the first locomotive to enter Caen Station since the Allies occupied the town. A regular service will now be operated between Cherbourg and Caen operated by British and American railwaymen, this 65 ton 650 HP American Diesel locomotive took out the first goods train from Caen to Cherbourg the following day
