The London Fire Brigade has just added to two brand new vessels to their River Thames fleet. Tanner is a metre long fireboat and is named after Auxiliary Firewoman Gillian Tanner who was awarded medals for her bravery fighting fires in WWII. Tanner has a top speed of 40 knots and is twice as fast as previous fireboats. Tanner is equipped with sophisticated high-definition thermal cameras for water search and rescue equipment. The fireboat’s bow is equipped with a ramp that can be lowered so officers can rescue casualties from the water or mudbanks at low tide. Tanner’s powerfull water monitors allow the fireboat to fight fires from the river. The fireboat is pictured near Gravesend undergoing crew training.
