Increasing drug longevity, conceptual illustration. Many drugs are broken down quickly in the body, therefore reducing their potency. One way to increase the time it takes for a drug to break down is to attach a polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymer to the drug, which improves the solubility of the molecule and helps to 'hide' it from destruction by the immune system.
