La Maddalena is the capital town of the island of the same name. Here you can explore the cobbled piazzas with their bustling cafes and shops or enjoy the busy waterfront. There is always something of interest to be found amongst the nineteenth century buildings and the paved alleys. La Maddalena always has a busy holiday atmosphere where the only way of visiting is by boat. It is famous for its popular beaches of Spalmatore and Basa Trinita. The island is characterised by its rocky, granite landscape. It is connected to the nearby island of Caprera, famous as the birthplace of Giuseppe Garibaldi, by a wartime bridge.
