Piercebridge, N Yorks: looking SSE across former course of River Tees at scattered remains of masonry piers which once supported a C2ndAD Roman bridge

Looking SSE, across the former course of the River Tees, at the scattered remains of masonry piers which once supported a C2ndAD Roman timber bridge where Dere Street, the main Roman road from York to northern England and beyond, crossed the Tees. An alternative theory is that some of the remains are from a Roman navigation weir across the Tees.
