A pedestrian walk-don't walk sign with a seconds countdown is seen on a street corner near Union Square in New York Saturday, March 6, 2010. The NYC Dept. of Transportation has installed the countdown signals in various locations to try to prevent the number of pedestrian injuries resulting from people attempting to make a light. The number of seconds displayed during the blinking don't walk differs depending on the intersection the light is installed on. (© Richard B. Levine)
