Ilios; the city and country of the TrojansThe results of researches and discoveries on the site of Troy and throughout the Troad in the years 1871-72-73-78-79, including an autobiography of the author . nd, or first is perhaps the prettiest of all the different sorts of heira afufiifcv-?reWa. It deserves attention that in the fourth city this sort of goblet isof a black, in the following city generally of a red, colour; it is always wheel-made. Nos. 1081 and 1082 aretwo more of the common red heira a/xc/u-KvireWa, which I have discussed of this shape are found here ingreat abundance. They also frequentlyoccur in the following, the fifth city, butthey are there generally of a muchsmaller size. Many of these long gobletsare hand-made, but there are also a vastnumber of wheel-made ones; and I thinkI am near the mark if I express theopinion that one-half of the whole numberare wheel-made. The remarkable reddouble-handled goblet (heira^ ), No, 1083, is hand-made; its shapereminds us of the form of the small whitebread (Semmel) used in Mecklenburg-Schwerin: this shape of gobletoccurs only once. No. 1084 is a pretty hand-made, double-handled lus-. Nb. 1083. Curious large two-handled Goblet(SeVas ;£iKU7reAAoy). (1:4 actual , 13 to 20 ft.)
