X. Henry Goodnough Dike, Quabbin Park, Ware, Massachusetts

The X. Henry Goodnough Dike is one of the two major structures that creates the Quabbin Reservoir, located inside Quabbin Park in Ware, Massachusetts. The Reservoir is the major source of fresh drinking water for approximately two milion residents of eastern Massachusetts. It is managed by the Division of Conservation and Recreation and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. The creation of the Reservoir involved the taking of four towns by imminent domain and the movement of several thousand residents off their land.
