Coal mine water treatment plant. Contaminated water from a flooded coal mine is pumped via waterfalls into settling ponds. The waterfalls allow oxygenation of water to facilitate conversion of soluble iron into insoluble iron. The water then passes into lagoons where the reeds absorb manganese, after which it is released into a river. Photographed at the Vouters 2 Well in Freyming-Merlebach, Lorraine, France.
