Midshipman Newcome confined in iron chains in the gun room for hitting Doctor Pestle. He sits under the rudder next to the mast on a spare tiller with his right leg in bilboes or shackles. The gun room is filled with muskets, swords, pistols, gunpowder and cannon. Doors lead to the gunner’s cabin and sub-lieutentant’s cabin. The gun room, Johnny in irons. HMS Victory.
