The first monument seen isthat of Gaspar Spurzheim, the Celebrated phrenologist, bomDec. 31, 1775, died in Boston, Nov. 10, 1832, aged monument is of white marble, is on an eminence at theleft, and will readily attract the visitors attention. It isbeautifully designed and executed, and is inclosed with anornamented circular railing. This was one of the earliesterected monuments in the ■J^/A/^fw-- SPDRZHEIM MONUMENT. See page 82. o4 MOUNT AUBURN CEMETERY. The Goddard monument on the right will next attractattention, and then that erected to the memory of GedneyKing, beyond. The Willis lot on the left contains a mon-ument of a very neat and appropriate design, the lot beinginclosed by an iron fence, also of a very appropriate lot of George H. Jones on the right will be particularlynoticed as containing, at the side of the large monument,two smaller figures, male and female. Under the latter isthe word not, and under the other separated. The God-dard monument at the right will next be noticed. This isa neatly ornamented column, with an urn at the top, encir-cled with a wreath of flowers. Turn to the right, and passinto Chapel Avenue.
