Workers gritting snow-covered streets in the Hammarby sjöstad district of Stockholm in Sweden
Formerly a brownfield industrial area, the Hammarby sjöstad district of Stockholm is now an eco-friendly development which is due for completion in 2015. The housing utilises a good deal of glass to capture sunlight and provide views and many of the apartments have balconies. Use is also made of solar panels and green-roofs so as to maximise insulation and minimise energy useage. There are parks, green spaces and walking routes throughout the district. Community provisions include sporting venues, schools, nursery, library, GP practise and church.
