An Apulian-Corinthian helmet, 5th century Bronze. A clearly set off calotte, open cheek pieces, small eye slits, prominent nasal, strongly sculpted eyebrows and forehead. Recognizable parts of what was formerly a boar depicted over much of the surface of the left cheek piece, with remnants of a herringbone pattern and palms along the perimeter. Fragments of a riveted crest fork on the side of the crown, and holes on the lower rim of the helmet for attaching the chinstraps. Height 18 cm. Weight 870 g.
