Some, however, reachedFrederick City. There the last survivor was abandoned. Oneby one they had been dropped along the road, and were neverheard of afterwards. On the 8th of September, the command moved to a dry,sloping hill-side, in the vicinity of Fort Cochran. Anotherfour days of similar exacting instruction followed, and thenbegan the sterner calls of duty.
