From Photo, by Mr. F. X. SOMERSET HOUSES—HENDRICK FISHERS This is probably the oldest house standing to-day inSomerset County, having been built by WilliamDockwra in 1688. It was purchased in 1703 by thefather of Hendrick Fisher, whose name was alsoHendrick, and at his death in 1749 was left to his general history tells very little of the per-sonal side of Hendrick Fisher, the younger, yet hewas one of the most prominent men in New Jersey inchurch and state before and during the period leadingup to the Revolutionary War. An excellent accountof his life by Rev. T. E. Davis appeared in the Pro-ceedings of the N. J. Hist. Soc, Vol. IV (ThirdSeries), pp. 129 et seq. He died in 1779 and was buried on his farm. Thehouse stands near South Bound Brook on the turn-pike leading to New Brunswick. It was remodeled afew years ago, the above picture having been takenbefore the change. The property is now owned byClaude St. J. B. G
