Metal salt crystals. Salts are compounds that can be formed from the neutralisation of an acid. The salts here (clockwise from lower left) are: sodium chloride (table salt, NaCl); iron (II) sulphate (FeSO4); iron (III) sulphate (Fe2[SO4]3); copper (II) sulphate (CuSO4); and copper (II) carbonate (CuCO3). The latter 4 salts are intensely coloured because they contain transition metals.
