The royal tiger has nosmile on its face, although it may have incriminating evidenceinside its beautifully variegated hide. Barve was a colorist inwater-colors and oils, as he was in his bronzes, the patinas ofwhich are singularly varied and handsome, as one may observein any large collection of his figurines, like those at theCorcoran in Washington or the Walters Gallery in Baltimore.
