Realizing this, the work of thisdepartment has been planned to emphasize this fact and to encourageyoung men in the breeding and improvement of the various classes ofdomestic animals. The work has been planned with a view of giving athorough training along the lines of stock judging and selection, stock-breeding, feeding, general care and management. The College herdshave been carefully selected, and among them are found representativesof all the leading breeds of cattle, horses, sheep and swine. 1. Live Stock I. In this course a careful study is made of all themarket types and classes of horses, cattle, sheep and swine. Two andone-half hours weekly are devoted to classroom work, and four hoursweekly the students meet for laboratory work, which consists in score-card practice with these various classes of animals and also work in theplacing of Some prize cattle. Forty-sixth Annual Catalogue. 75 2. Live Stock II. This course takes up the origin and history of thevarious breeds , of horses, cattle, sheep and swine. A careful study ismade of all the breed characteristics. Four hours weekly are devoted tolaboratory work, which consists of judging animals of the various course must be preceded by anatomy I. 3. Stock Feeding. The practical feeding of the various classes ofdomestic animals for most practical results is given in this course. Thestudent is shown how to apply his knowledge of feeding standards^ andtables of digestible nutrients in feeding-stuffs to actual feed-lot conditions;the most economical combinations of feeds for maintenance, the produc-tion of milk, and the growing and fattening of the various classes _ ofanimals for market.
