Mars topographical map. Three-dimensional composite satellite image of the surface of Mars. Topographical features are labelled in black. North is at top. Features visible include the Elysium Planitia (centre right), a highly volcanic region, and Hellas Planitia (lower centre), a roughly circular impact basin, which at about 2,300 kilometres in diameter is the largest impact structure on the planet. The map was created using data from the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft's Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter.
