I., early in 18()4, join-ing his regiment at Scottsboro, Alabama, which soon after beganthe arduous campaign for Atlanta, which ended in the occupationof that city by the Union forces in September, 1S()4. He waswith his regiment in all the battles and skirmishes of this cam-paign. He went with Sherman on the celebrated march to the sea,and through the Carolinas to Washington, D. C, where he par-ticipated in the grand review. Subsequently his command was assigned to duty in Arkansasand Indian Territory, where they remained until August, 18()5,when he was mustered out with his command.
