Irish linen industry, early 20th century. Workers hatchling flax fibres. This is the first stage of the process of producing linen, a textile made from fibres of the flax plant. Ireland in the latter half of the 19th century and in the early 20th century was famed for the linen it produced. This photograph, which dates from between 1918 and 1921, is from the National Photo Company Collection.
