Keep the soil mellow and free from weeds during the summer, and in the fall or spring the plants may be set out in beds about a foot apart each way; with the crowns four inches below the surface. Before winter, cover the transplanted beds with four inches of manure, to be followed in the spring by a coating of rough salt of 1 pound to the square yard.
