There is every reason to believe that the present Mansion of Blith-field stands on the same spot where the family of that name had residedfor some ages, before Sir Ralph Bagot married the heiress thereof, inthe time of Edward III. The House, which stands by S., wasformerly surrounded by a deep and extensive moat; part of which re-mained perfect as late as the year 17G9, when William, the first LordBagot, filled it up, and added a suite of rooms over it.
