Forsskal's or the Red Sea Goatfish, Parupeneus forsskali, in the Mediterranean Sea. This picture was taken in Cirkewwa, Malta.

This species made its way into the Mediterranean through Lessepsian migration, coming from the Red Sea. As all species of goatfish the Red Sea goatfish have the ability to change their coloration. Goatfish are usually encountered in smaller groups, digging in the sand to search for smaller invertebrates. Spawning takes place in the open water, where the fertilized eggs become part of the planktonic community and drift with the water currents.
