Special examinations shouldnow be made of the orbit, internal ear, and nasopharyngeal situation of the cranial nerves is seen in Fig. 140. INTERNAL EXAMINATION OF THE BRAIN. The brain may be sectioned either immediately upon its removal orafter first being hardened, each method having its advantages. If animmediate diagnosis is required or colleagues are present to giveunusual interest to a discussion of the findings, the sectioning willprobably be done at once. If any hemorrhagic lesion is suspected,it is more conspicuous in the recent state, and a wholly unexpectedbacteriologic investigation might be demanded by the revelations ofthe incisions.
