Gallstones (cholelithiasis) accumulate within the gall bladder when bile becomes supersaturated with cholesterol. Stones may be multiple and small, or single and large. Pigmentation is due to calcium salts and bile pigments. Symptoms may include abdominal and/or back pain, inflammation of the gall bladder (with nausea and vomiting), jaundice, and biliary colic.
