In 1894, Butch Cassidy, just before beginning his time in Wyoming State Prison, was photographed. This image, actually his mugshot from the Wyoming Territorial Prison, was captured by an unidentified prison photographer and has become one of the most iconic representations of Butch Cassidy. Born Robert LeRoy Parker, Cassidy was incarcerated at the Wyoming State Prison in Laramie on charges of grand larceny, particularly horse theft. He completed 18 months of a two-year term from 1894 to 1896, after which he was released and pardoned by Governor William Alford Richards.
