The Transpanteneira runs between Pocone and Porto Joffre on the Cuiaba River.(also call Rio Sao Lourenco) on the border with the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The highway gives road access to large areas of the Pantanal wetlands and a large number of different species of animals, reptiles and birds can be seen along its length. A dead tree near the highway house a Jabiru stork nest (Jabiru mycteria) with a pair of adults and a large chick.
