Here the thickening destroys the normal expression andproduces a fixed, satyr-like appearance giving rise to the term satyriasis,sometimes applied to the disease. The nose, ears, lips and eyelids becomependulous, occasioning a marked interference with the circulation and aconsequent swelling. Ectropion follows and a bleary stare results.
