Each16 X 40 ft. house is divided into foivr pens fortwenty-five hens each. The roosts are rangedalong the north wall of each pen, with drop-pings boards under them. The nests are in arather peculiar position — on the north wallabove the roosts. The object of putting themhere is to have them out of the way as muchas possible. As both the Wyckoffs are tallmen with a correspondingly long reach, theydo not find it awkward to collect eggs fromthese nests, as a shorter person might. Tokeep the hens from roosting on the nests thereis a wide cover hinged to the wall above themat such height that when let down it makes anincline too steep for the hens to rest upon. Of these houses there .are now six in twoparallel rows. The runs for the south rowextend south from the houses, those for thenorth row run north. As the fowls do not.
