This illustration dates to 1912 and is part of a series of maps titled: “The Unrolling of the Clouds.” It is the fifth in the series. It shows the world as known after the circumnavigation by Sir Francis Drake in the years 1577-1580. The First Englishman to Sail Round the World. Drake carried out the second circumnavigation of the world in a single expedition, from 1577 to 1580, and was the first to complete the voyage as captain while leading the expedition throughout the entire circumnavigation.
