I started with the native cow and used Shorthorn I have cattle that would not disgrace the blue grass pasturesof Kentucky. I have tried hard to get Florida cattlemen to use better beef bloodin breeding, but it is up-hill work. Some have not been uniformlysuccessful for two reasons: First, the beef bull is not as active asthe Florida native, and when turned out on the range, the nativebull sires the greatest percentage of the calves. The large beef bullsshould never be put on the range with other bulls, if a reasonablecrop of calves is expected that will show the blood of the beef bull. The second fault found with the better bred bulls when put on therange is that no thought is taken as to his size and the amount offeed that he must consume to maintain that size and make l
