Spermatogonia. Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through the seminiferous tubule of a testis (testicle), showing two spermatogonia in the seminiferous epithelium (lining). Spermatogonia are one of the precursor cells that develop into spermatozoa (sperm cells). These two type B spermatogonia remain connected via an intercellular bridge created during a previous cell division. They will remain interconnected throughout further maturation and division until they have developed into mature spermatids. Mitosis of type A spermatogonia forms type B spermatogonia which in turn divide by mitosis to yield the earliest primary spermatocytes. Magnification; x4,000 when printed 10 centimetres tall.
