One of his students entered theJunior Class at Princeton, New Jersey,while one entered the Junior Class of theUniversity of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, andothers in the lower classes. The boardof regents of the last-named school recog-ni2ed his scholarship and efficiency as ateacher by conferring on him the honorarydegree of A. M. During the years 1853 and 1854 oursubject attended law lectures in NewYork; then returned to Alabama and wastendered the presidency of the teachingfaculty of
