Gallentine of Parker, Colo., cleans one of two afterburners on an F/A-18C Hornet prior to flight operations aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). Cleaning is one of many pre-flight activities performed on aircraft to keep the equipment in top condition. Kitty Hawk is currently under way in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), demonstrating power projection and sea control, as the world's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
