Chaos map. Computer model of chaos produced by a repeated mathematical operation (iteration) called mapping. Mathematical mapping involves repeating rules that tell you how to change the original object. The rules may say where the point should move to, and what the new colour should be. This can produce patterns of great complexity from simple origins. This map started as 500 points which were mapped hundreds of thousands of times. The colours are obtained with a wave mechanics concept called the de Broglie phase. This produces a semi-classical approximation to a full quantum chaos map. This model was created as an artwork by Professor Eric Heller.
