Tapestry in Christian IVs Hall Akershus Castle Oslo Norway


Built in 1299 by Haakon V Magnusson on Oslo Harbor this medieval stone castle and royal residence was developed into an armed fortress with ramparts and cannons by 1592 after which it withstood a number of sieges and fires and fell into decay in 1899 it was restored The government now uses it for state events The Norges Hjemmefrontmuseum Norwegian Resistance Museum on the grounds records Norwegian experience in World War II under Nazi occupation This tapestry was woven about 1650 by E Leyniers from a design by J Jordaiens
