Maybeck, designer of the Palace of Fine Arts, turned toplanning barns, with the result that instead of looking like some bald arrayof sheds and byres the whole Live Stock Section had a light, spacious andfestive air that was very charming; and utility was consulted in every barns were made interesting with broad, overhanging eaves that castcool shadows on the walls, and they were gay with hundreds of slender,painted flag-poles like Venetian masts. It is not likely that live stock wasever exhibited in any handsomer quarters, and the congress hall and officepavilion was pleasant and inviting.
