Test drive. Astronaut Eugene Cernan checking the function of the Lunar Rover Vehicle (LRV) after the arrival of Apollo 17 on the Moon. Apollo 17 landed in the Taurus-Littrow region on 11 December 1972. Cernan and Harrison Schmitt made three excursions on the Lunar surface, totalling 22 hours. Cernan was mission commander of Apollo 17, the last Apollo Moon mission, and was thus the last man to stand on the Moon. Cernan and Schmitt left the Moon on 13 December 1972, returning to Earth with Ronald Evans who had manned the orbiting command module. Apollo 17 re-entered on 19 December 1972.
