We were camped at the ford of a small stream near KettleRun. Bryant Rudd and myself were detailed by Acting Ser-geant Wm. Glover Gage to guard the road leading to the remember that it was a warm, bright, sunny day, and we were 143 right in our glory in being assigned to the post that we were no Rebs in our immediate vicinity, everything wasquiet, and it was just one of those balmy Southern days thatmakes a man fall in love with nature. We were stationed about a mile from camp, doing dutyuntil noon, and then began to look for relief, but none ate some of the grub that we had in our haversacks andcontinued waiting for the relie
