Information board about DeltaStream Tidal Energy Demonstration Project at St. Justinians, Pembrokeshire, Wales UK in May

Tidal Energy Limited is testing a DeltaStream turbine in Ramsey Sound for a 12 month period. The project will demonstrate the technical capability of the turbine and provide evidence on how the device and the environment interact. The technology was invented by Pembrokeshire engineer Richard Ayre. Deltastream is being connected to the local electricity network and will feed renewable energy to the local people in St Davids. The Deltastream unit - the demonstration DeltaStream device is a 400kW tidal stream unit which sits on the seabed. It generates electricity from a horizontal axis turbine mounted on a triangular steel frame. The device is deep enough so as not to cause any obstruction to boats travelling through Ramsey Sound and has been designed with the well-being of the environment in mind. Temporary Power Conversion Compound houses the control systems, environmental monitoring displays and power conditioning equipment for the project and is located in the RNLI field.
