She was born as Anne Searle (or Sayer) and was a niece of her husband's cousin, namely Thomas Tenison (1636-1715), Archbishop of Canterbury. The medallion is 23 inches in diameter and is cut in relief on a blue marble ledger stone, 80inch x 39inch situated on the north side of the Cloisters. The escutcheon is lozenge-shaped, as borne by a female, and shows the arms of Tenison (Gules, three leopard's faces or jessant-de-lys azure over all a bend engrailed argent (Burke's General Armory 1884)) impaling Searle or Sayer (A fess battled-counter-embattled between three birds). The jessant-de-lys charge has been misinterpreted by the stone mason as leopard's heads ducally crowned, with forked beards. The inscription is as follows: 'Here lyes the body of Anne Tenison widow of Dr Edward Tenison late Bishop of Ossory in Ireland formerly Prebendary of this Church.
