Buckytube. Molecular model of part of the cage structure of a buckytube. The spheres represent carbon atoms, and the rods are bonds between them. In this structure hundreds of atoms form hexagon shapes along a tube. This molecule is one of a class of carbon molecules called fullerenes, discovered in 1985. They have novel physical and chemical properties which can be exploited to make new catalysts, lubricants and superconductors.
